Key Steps in Software Development: From Analysis to Release

01.11.2024

Your favorite messaging app, the filters you use on social media, and even that popular online food delivery service — all of these are the result of the complex yet fascinating work of software developers. But do you know how it all happens? Let’s take a behind-the-scenes look at software development, where every detail matters: from market analysis to the release of a finished digital product. Get ready to discover how a simple idea turns into the software you use every day!

From Concept to Realization

The software development process goes through several stages, each of which is essential for successfully bringing an idea to life.

  1. Needs Analysis.
The first step in software development is assessing the market to understand the specific needs and expectations of end users. At this stage, the team conducts research and user surveys, analyzes competitors to determine which features and functionalities will be useful and popular. For example, if developing a new social media app, it’s important to find out how users envision its design and functionality, and what issues they have with existing programs. The analysis results in defining goals to achieve during software development, business tasks, requirements, deadlines, and more.
  2. Design and Architecture.
At this stage, the overall structure of the software is determined, database schemas are developed, and implementation technologies are selected. The architecture largely determines the scalability, security, and efficiency of the digital product in the future. This stage helps define the development concept and plan the next steps in software creation.
  3. Design.
A crucial part of the software development process, ensuring the product is not only functional but also user-friendly and visually appealing. Design consists of two main components.
    • UX (User Experience) — specialists develop the structure of the software product, define the sequence of user actions, and ensure easy access to necessary information or features.
    • UI (User Interface) — after defining the product structure, the team creates interface elements such as blocks, buttons, and icons, assembling them into a complete layout. Designers consider color schemes, typography, and the placement of elements on the screen to ensure a harmonious and stylish interface.
  4. Programming.
Once the concept is approved, specialists move on to the implementation phase and begin writing the code. This is the process of developing functions, modules, user interfaces, and other components of the software. Every line of code is written to implement a specific feature of the program.
  5. Testing and Debugging.
After the code is written, the testing phase begins, where developers check the software for errors, flaws, and inaccuracies in its operation. For example, in the case of a mobile app, testing might include verifying the functionality of all buttons and tabs, ensuring design adaptability to different screen sizes, and checking the stability of the app under various usage conditions. Testing can be manual or automated.
  6. Release and Maintenance.
The final stage of development is the release of the software and its ongoing support. After the release, the software may continue to be updated, with developers fixing bugs to maintain new security standards and adding new features.
