Do you dream of a career in marketing but don't know where to start? Of course, with education! But before you run to the admission committee, you should figure out what subjects you need to take to become a marketer to enter a college or university. After all, the foundation of your future career depends on it. Let's find out what exactly you should consider in order to effectively prepare for your studies!
Choosing an educational institution
The first step is to decide where you want to study. This decision will determine which exams you need to take to become a marketer and which subjects you will have to study more diligently.
Option 1 - university
If you plan to pursue higher education at a university after grade 11, then get ready to take the National Multiple Subject Test (NMT). Its results will affect your enrolment, so you should seriously study all compulsory subjects.
This year's NMT covered the following subjects:
- Ukrainian language. Everyone who plans to take the NMT needs to know this subject perfectly, regardless of whether you plan to study marketing or choose another speciality. Revise all the topics from your school course, in particular, you should focus on phonetics, spelling, word structure, lexicology and phraseology, syntax, stylistics, and speech development. To successfully pass the NMT in this subject, you need to complete 20 tasks: 15 tests with one correct answer out of four or five options, as well as 5 matching tasks where you need to find logical pairs.
- Mathematics. If you plan to become a successful marketer, you can't do without taking mathematics. This is a compulsory subject of the NMT, which contains 22 tasks: 15 multiple-choice questions, 3 tasks for establishing logical pairs, and 4 open-ended questions that require independent calculations. It is worth preparing for this subject responsibly, because knowledge of mathematics will help in your future profession.
- History of Ukraine. This subject will also be taken by marketers. There are 30 tasks to complete, including multiple-choice questions, matching tasks, and exercises to find the sequence of historical events. When preparing for this block, special attention should be paid to the period ‘the second half of the 16th century - the beginning of the 21st century’, as knowledge of the history of Ukraine is important for the overall development and formation of analytical thinking that will be needed in the future career of a marketer.
In addition to the mandatory parts, the EMI will include an elective. Please note that geography has the highest coefficient for the Marketing programme, so it is beneficial for applicants to take this subject. However, you can also choose something else instead: Ukrainian literature, a foreign language (English, German, French, Spanish), chemistry, physics, biology.
Option 2 - college
If you are considering studying at a college, everything is much easier. You can study to become a marketer as early as the 9th grade and won't have to take exams in many subjects. You need to create an applicant's account on the EDEBO website, submit an electronic application, send a package of documents and sign an agreement. This greatly facilitates the admission process, and you can become a student in a few weeks.
Remember that after completing your marketing studies at college, you will have the opportunity to enter a university immediately for the second or even third year. Therefore, if you don't want to take a lot of subjects at once, college can be the best start for your future career in marketing.
Another bonus exclusively from OPTIMA College is the distance learning format for marketing. Just imagine: no more morning commutes in crowded minibuses, the opportunity to study from anywhere, whether at home on the couch, in a cafe, or even while travelling. The flexible schedule allows you to adjust your education to your lifestyle, and interactive classes make the process of learning subjects interesting and exciting. This is an ideal option for those who value their time and want to master the marketing profession without being distracted from important matters and daily responsibilities.
